The Experience
Having a life cast done can be a very exciting experience, however you might want to have a little information about the process.
If the life casting to be done is of your baby I can come to you if it's within about 20 miles, but if it is of an adult torso or a number of hands together it is best to come to the studio.
Our studio is based between Guildford and Woking and is easily accessible from the M25 and A3.
Before your appointment we will have discussed an idea of what you are looking for in your life casting. The casting takes all the details from you skin so it would be a good idea to not wear underwear to your appointment as bra straps and elastic lines from underwear may show on your body and these lines will be picked up by the impression material.
Once you arrive we will discuss again the details of the cast you want. I will get you to try out different positions and between us we can decide on the final life casting you would like.
The area to be cast will be covered in alginate which is a safe product that is used for taking dental impressions. Once the alginate has set (which happens in just a few minutes) it will have taken all the details of your skin but will need supporting as it is quite floppy so I will then place plaster bandage over it to support the alginate mould. We then take the mould off you which has to be done with care and will probably involve lots of laughter as we try to slowly wriggle you out of it.
Life Casting can be a messy business so after we have covered you plaster and alginate you might like to have a shower.
Please bring a partner or friend with you for the casting. They can enjoy the experience with you and, if you would like, they can also take photographs.
Occasionally there may be scars or other marks on your body that you would prefer not to appear on the casting. Part of my job as a life caster is to make sure you get the life casting you want, so we can discuss any areas you would like to change and I can make these changes in the final life cast.
